We continue to watch the reports on Hurricane Earl and expect a rainy windy weekend. At this time there are no plans to cancel the event. Please check back here for updates.

Earl will most likely miss us. His forecast track takes him100 miles SE of Cape Cod. That takes the true force off the hurricane off the table for us. You'll have to make an extra effort (surfing, kite-flying, etc...) if you wish, for whatever reasons you may have, to perish in this storm.

However, even a near-miss from a storm like the Duke could pound us out pretty badly here on the C Double. Our local forecasters all agree that the storm will miss us to the SE, yet they all also agree that Cape Cod and all of SE Massachusetts could suffer tropical storm conditions...Earl Lite.

Keep in mind, the margin of error in a forecast track is 100 miles a day as the storm nears us. Earl could curve to the east and we'd never see him. I consider this to be the second highest probability. Read the entire article.

For those who may be wondering what's up with our Hyannis Seminar and Hurricane Earl. We are keeping an eye on things. We do not expect having to cancel this event - quite the contrary, we plan to be hearty quilters and weather it together.

On Saturday morning, Justin and I left La Veta driving east and as of this post we are between Erie, PA, and Buffalo, NY. We will arrive in Hyannis on Tuesday evening.

"Hi Ricky - Earl or no Earl, I'm packing my bags this evening and will be heading out tomorrow for the Cape. No hurricane is going to stop me from this event. I'll see you in Hyannis."

Today I started making a mini-quilt for the miniature auction at the International Quilt Festival. The proceeds benefit the International Quilt Association. If you are heading to Houston for festival, be sure to stop by and take a look.

This is just the start of it. I'm heading off to a Ricky Tims Super Quilt Seminar in Cape Cod and won't be able to work on this one again until I get back.

Update: September 10, 2010 - This quilt will not be finished for the auction. However, the quilt that will be in the auction is here. 

Life sure got in the way after Big Bear arrived, but we managed to get it hauled out to Autumn Rock and the poles were raised. You can guess the next step.

This week I had a student at retreat who was working on a quilt that I thought could benefit from a particular technique - a la Libby Lehman. However, she wasn't "seeing it." So, I spent some early morning time before class creating a small sample. I liked the sample enough to quilt and finish it. After seeing this, the student "got" it and loved pursuing her project in a similar manner.

Sometimes doing something small and quick can be a real shot in the "creative" arm. There's a couple of technical things I wish were different, but the fact is - I had fun - and I like it. I'm open to a better title if you have suggestions.

Do you ever side step from a big project just to do something small and fun - to break the monotony? If not, maybe today is a good day to do just that!
