Portal is based on Ricky Tims' one-shape unit called a Ladyfinger. If you are into jelly rolls, this pattern maximizes the fabric and yields minimal fabric waste. The pattern shows multiple variations which allows for personalized customization of layouts and coloration. Measures 72" x 79" but the pattern shows other size variations to suit your needs.
Historically, one-shape quilts have always been popular. Quilts with same-size squares, like Trip Around the World, would be the most common. The Apple Core shape has fun interlocking curves, and the trapezoidal Tumbler shape is time tested and true. The seed that sprouted this quilt’s particular shape came from my pondering ideas that would use jelly rolls—the pre-cut strip bundles that many quilters enjoy using. Most ideas are born from the questions, “What would happen if…?” Exploring the answers led me to the creation of Portal.
