This past year as President of the International Quilt Association I was aware that the number of entries World of Beauty Quilt Contest at the International Quilt Festival was significantly decreased. As the deadline approached I decided that since I was home due to Covid, I wanted to make a quilt for entry into the show as it had been a few years since I had an entry in the Houston show.

I wanted a design that was explosive and used curved piecing. I used a large piece of freezer paper and sketched a design using compasses to draw the circle. The piecing technique is what I call ‘no pins precision curved piecing’. I have made many quilts using this technique and it is one of the techniques that is featured in Quilt Luminarium. It is made from my personal stash of hand-dyed fabrics. I spent a lot of time designing free motion quilting patterns for this quilt and I am looking forward to teaching that process in the near future.  

 

Unfortunately, although this quilt was entered, the show was canceled before anyone knew if their entries were accepted or not so this is the first time I have released it to the public to view.
