In the summer of 1991 I started my first quilt and by the Fall I had jumped off the deep end. I asked my family and friends to make blocks as Christmas gifts. These are the nine blocks that I was gifted. I quickly set the blocks together using the attic window and I used leftover bits from a workshop project on gradations for the border. 

Quilts do not have to be perfect—or prize-winning specimens to be important or treasured. This quilt has always held a special place in my heart because nobody who made block in this quilt were quilters. They were just willing to give it a try. Now, 29 years later, they are more precious because two of my loved ones who made blocks have passed away.

I'm so very thankful for this memory and offer it as a suggestion to you. Ask your friends and family to make a block. It doesn't have to have a special color or fabric or design. Just let them do what they want to do and if you are able to assist, sure - do it. You will make a memory that will last a lifetime. This quilt has often hung on my walls. It makes me happy and brings back wonderful memories - and after all...isn't that what is all about?

I designed and made Bending Tree to be a metaphor for life. There are times when challenges are almost unbearable—times when we feel like we will break. But as Karen Carpenter sang, just like the young trees in the winter time, I'll learn how to bend, we all must learn to do the same. Hold strong. Stay true. Fight and persevere. The quilt is a message of encouragement and a reminder that...this too shall pass. I do have a pattern for this, but there are no more hand-dyed fabric kits.

I'm please to announce these two new holiday projects! Both of these are primarily made from charm square packs. Patterns Only will be available starting November 11.

Today they are available in kits made from my new line of Lizzy Albright fabric! The Holiday Hearth Stocking kit makes two stockings - and they can be made in a day. The Holiday Charm Wreath would take 2 days or a full weekend. These fun and easy projects are great for your holiday decor!

I’ve been secretly working on these two new patterns and busting my buttons to tell you about them! So many of you asked me for small projects using the Lizzy Albright fabrics. I chose “the holidays" for my answer. Theses were designed, patterned, and made with super quick turnaround and took a bit of fancy footwork just to get the fabrics in so we could create kits for you! All you need to do is open the package and get busy sewing. These are easy and fast so you can enjoy them this holiday season!
